A Limestone County man who barricaded himself in a home Monday after deputies attempted to arrest him was later safely apprehended, an official said.

Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Stephen Young said 26-year-old Brent Michael Bircher and 26-year-old Jessica Smith, both of 20298 Lasso Circle, Toney, were sought on charges of third-degree burglary. When deputies attempted to execute an arrest warrant at the residence, Bircher ran and barricaded himself inside the home.

Deputies received information Bircher may have been armed with a handgun, so the Special Response Team was called to the scene. Young said the team entered the home and found Bircher hiding in a closet. He was then taken into custody without incident.

Smith was also arrested without incident. Young said additional charges against Bircher may be pending.

After being charged, Bircher and Smith’s bonds were set at $2,500 each.
