Investigators with the Limestone County Sheriff's Office believe this man may have cloned debit and credit cards and then used the fake cards to purchase gift cards at area retail stores. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 256-232-0111.

The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in solving three different theft cases, an official said Wednesday.

Mailbox thefts

A man is being sought in connection identity theft stemming from personal information being stolen from at least one mailbox.

Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Young said a victim reported check was stolen that was meant to pay a bill. After the company contacted the victim to say payment had not arrived, the victim discovered fraudulent charges on the account.

It is believed the suspect or suspects took the victim’s routing and bank account number and created new checkbooks using the information. The checks, which displayed the name of a different bank, were then used, resulting in a $4,000 overdraft on the victim’s account.

Cloned cards

In an unrelated identity theft and fraud cause, Young said a victim called to report multiple $50 transactions on an account. The victim still had possession of the credit card, so it is believed the suspect in the case cloned the card.

Investigators believe there could be other victim who have not come forward yet and some may live outside Limestone County. The suspect in the case was captured on retail security cameras using multiple credit and debit cards to purchase gift cards.

Young said the suspect is a black male, standing between 5-feet-8 inches and 5-feet-10 inches tall and weighing 180 to 220 pounds. He is seen in security footage driving both a black Nissan Altima and a white Mitsubishi Eclipse. The man has been spotted in Decatur, Athens, Madison, Huntsville and Hartselle.
