The Limestone County coroner believes the death of a 17-year-old boy from Toney who was struck and killed by a train in northeastern Limestone County was an accident.

A CSX train engineer discovered the body Thursday beside the tracks off Clem Road and north of Thatch Road and reported his findings to authorities.

At press time, Limestone County Coroner Mike West said he could not release the teenager’s name because family members were still being notified of his death.

Officials believe the teenager had been at the location a matter of days.

Cause of death was blunt-force head trauma, West said. He believed the death was an accident because “there was no note.”

Sheriff’s investigators will continue to try to determine for certain whether the death was an accident.

Although his car was found parked on Clem Road, investigators did not know why the teenager was in the area, West said.

The body was located in the woods “hundreds of yards” north of Thatch Road, Young said. Officials entered the woods on foot and others using a “Gator” utility vehicle.
