A 66-year-old Limestone County man was killed Wednesday in a dune buggy accident in eastern Limestone County, an official said.

Dwight Allen Webster, who lived on East Limestone Road, was driving a dune buggy at East Limestone and Barksdale roads around noon when the accident, said Limestone County Coroner Mike West.

“For whatever reason, he left the road and went into a field and hit a tree,” West said. The cause of death was blunt force trauma, the coroner said.

According to emergency radio reports, a MedFlight helicopter had been called to the scene but was then cancelled after rescue personnel arrived and determined Webster had died.

An Alabama state trooper was called to the scene to investigate the accident.
