An Athens man was home alone one afternoon in November 2016, when he heard a knock on the door, according to court records.
He opened the door to find an acquaintance and two men he did not know, one of whom he later identified as Johnnie Marshall Jr., 25, of 2807 Princeton Ave., Decatur, after calling friends and looking at Marshall’s photograph on Facebook.
The acquaintance asked the man if he would sell his car, but the man declined. The acquaintance then showed him a photograph of the car he planned to buy.
The four men sat down and smoked marijuana together. They had smoked only a few minutes when the acquaintance, Marshall and the unidentified man pulled handguns on the resident. While the acquaintance held the man at gunpoint, Marshall and the unknown man searched the house.
At one point the unknown man asked, “Where’s the money at?” and, referring to guns, “Where’s the straps at?”
During their search, the gunmen discovered the man was growing marijuana plants. They asked when the plants would be ready. The resident told the gunmen the plants would be ready in three weeks and offered to help them load the plants (in their vehicle) if they would spare his life.
The gunmen stole $200 in cash and a pump shotgun, tied up the man and fled.
Limestone County Sheriff’s Investigator Leslie Ramsey looked into the case and obtained a warrant for Marshall on a charge of first-degree robbery on Dec. 2, 2016.
Marshall was arrested on the warrant Thursday.
He was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond.
