Two lanes of Alabama 20 East between Interstate 65 and the Alabama 20/U.S. 72 split were closed but have since been opened after a roll of steel fell from a flatbed trailer into the median, Decatur Police reported.

One northbound lane and one southbound lane remain open.

Arrangements are being made to bring a crane to the scene to recover the roll of steel. All lanes of Alabama 20 will be closed once the crane arrives.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area if possible and use I-65/Alabama 67 or secondary roads until the highway is reopened.
