Athens may buy CNG garbage truck

Athens City Council members will likely decide Monday whether to buy a compressed natural gas garbage truck to replace an aging garbage truck. The city has had good success with its CNG vehicles, which have lower fuel costs, run quieter and last longer than gasoline powered trucks.

This is just one of the items listed on the agenda for the council’s meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall at 200 W. Hobbs St.

A premeeting work session will be held at 4:30 p.m., at which time Larry Pippins of Athens Housing Authority will speak for about 15 minutes. The council will then review the items on the meeting agenda.
