Funeral services will be held Wednesday for an Athens teen killed Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on New Cut Road.
Morgan Lane Creel, 19, of Athens was killed when the 2003 Toyota Corolla he was driving left the road and overturned before striking a tree, troopers said. The crash occurred shortly after 4 a.m.
Troopers said Creel was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle.
“Although the circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation, preliminary investigation indicates speed was a factor in the crash,” said a statement Curtis Summerville, spokesman for Alabama State Troopers.
Funeral services for Creel will be 1 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. His obituary can be found on page 3A of today’s edition.
