Athens Police arrested a Florence man Tuesday morning after a burglary was reported at a West Market Street convenience store.

Donnie Everrett Patterson, 45, of 416 Industry St., is charged with third-degree burglary.

At 4:30 a.m., the alarm at Fuel City on West Market Street was activated, alerting police, APD Chief Floyd Johnson said. When officers arrived they found someone had broken the glass out of the door. The owner later arrived and accessed the video system to get a description of the offender, Johnson said. A burglary report stated a bag of Golden Flake Sweet Heat chips, a Reese’s Big Cup, beer and three packs of cigarettes, totaling $21, missing from the store.

At 5:36 a.m., Athens Police Lt. Dusty Meadows saw a male who fit the description of the burglar walking on Jefferson Street near Washington Street. When Meadows stopped to talk, the man began running, Johnson said.
