A burglary suspect pulls on a car door handle in this still from a surveillance video. Nearly two-dozen vehicles were burglarized early Wednesday morning, according to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday were reviewing video camera footage in an effort to solve a string of 23 residential burglaries in East Limestone.

Deputy Stephen Young of the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said a video camera captured footage of three white males checking vehicle doors and rummaging through an unlocked vehicle. The incidents occurred on East Limestone Road, between Denbo Circle and McLemore Circle.

Two homes were reportedly burglarized, Young said, though unlocked vehicles were the primary targets. The crimes occurred between 1:30 and 3 a.m. Wednesday.

One of those victims was business owner Marcy Hamilton of Rocket City Motors and Rocket City Sheds. Her personal vehicle was burglarized in the Oak Leaf Estates neighborhood.

The thieves took company checkbooks from her unlocked vehicle and broke a toy belonging to her 10-year-old daughter who has autism. She’s offering a $500 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of those responsible.

Hamilton’s neighbor discovered the burglaries early this morning and woke her up. She added it’s the first time this has happened in her neighborhood.

“My dad always told me, never leave anything valuable in your car and leave your car unlocked,” she said. “Replacing a busted window is a lot more expensive than replacing a radio or anything else somebody might want. … It will make me think twice now (about locking my car doors).”

Perhaps the only silver lining is that Stellie Bellies, a Florida-based boutique, saw Hamilton’s post about her daughter’s toy being broken and offered to send a replacement.

When asked if she had a message for the person or people responsible for the burglaries, Hamilton paused to think of a sentiment that could be printed in a family-friendly newspaper.

“You’re going to get caught, and I hope it’s someone who needs $500 who catches you,” she said.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office at 256-232-0111.
