MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — David Sadler will attend the inauguration on Friday and offer free hugs.

His message: Help restore hope and self-worth through faith.

Standing blindfolded – a way to signify that he cannot judge anyone, and that he is blindly receiving others – the Montgomery resident will repeat the same efforts he demonstrated in front of the city’s minor league baseball stadium in April, where he set up a blind trust experiment with a sign near him that read: “You do not have to fear me! I count. U count. We count! I trust u, do u trust me? LET’S HUG. God is love.”

“I’m sitting there extremely vulnerable in what’s going to happen,” said Sadler. “There were some people in Montgomery who said they watched for a while, and felt convicted, and then felt they should hug.”

In Washington, D.C., he said there will be both excitement and people protesting Donald Trump’s election win.

“What we have to realize is that supporting him and wishing he does well means that the country does well,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who you are, your color or sexual orientation. Let’s just all love each other through it. Trump says we’ll make America great again, but we’re saying it’s been great, so let’s make it greater.”

Sadler, owner of CSI Transportation, left for Washington on Wednesday with his wife, Destiny, and children, Dennis, 3, and 1-year-old Daily.

And on Friday, his sign will read: “We the People will make America greater. I count, you count, we count. I trust you, do you trust me? Let’s hug. God is love.”

Sadler in April was “distraught” over the division of blacks and whites, referencing the shootings and violence in cities, including Dallas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. And he wanted it to stop, and to do something about it.

A video made of his hugs at the Biscuits stadium went viral.

“We went to New York and did it there,” he said. “And in D.C. Now we’re going back. For me, I said, ‘What better moment to show there are still people out here that believe and are hoping for the best no matter what circumstances that we face?’

“I think because Trump won, I think the atmosphere will be different than the campaign season. I think they’re going in there with a different attitude. His message is all inclusive. I don’t see how anybody can not embrace that. Now that he’s the president … I guess sometimes you don’t always agree with the coach. But because he’s over the free world now, all you can do is support him. It doesn’t mean you have to agree with his policies or procedures, but if he does well, we do well.”
