Montgomery remained in the Limestone County Jail Wednesday afternoon with bail set at $5,000. A preliminary hearing for Montgomery is scheduled Jan. 24 in Limestone County District Court.
Sheriff’s Investigator Leslie Ramsey arrested Montgomery as he was attempting to sell two firearms at a local auction – Donna’s Barn and Cafe on Elkton Road in Elkmont, Young said.
After receiving information that Montgomery was at Donna’s Barn trying to sell the weapons, investigators went to the location and found him with a .22-caliber Mossberg AR-15 rifle and a .25-caliber Titan pistol.
Because Montgomery had been previously convicted on felony charges, he was forbidden to possess firearms.
The serial number of the AR-15 had been scratched off, and the identity of the owner, or owners, of the two guns is unknown at this time, Young said.
