A Feb. 6 trial date has been set for a man accused of shooting a motorcyclist on U.S. 72 in Athens in 2012.

Noah Andrew McGlawn, 24, of Whiteville, Tennessee, is accused of shooting Brandon Matlock of Athens as he rode his motorcycle along 72 on Sept. 10. Though shot twice, Matlock was able to cross the road to get help and he later recovered.

McGlawn fled the scene but later turned himself in to police, telling them he was angry at his father and just felt like shooting someone.

The trial has been set several times, most recently in November last year. Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones said in November McGlawn could be suffering a “mental disease or defect” and that the state and the defense have “dueling experts” on the matter.

He said if it is determined McGlawn has a mental defect he will go to Bryce (state psychiatric facility) rather than to prison.

A Jan. 25 plea docket is also set in the case at which time the defendant could plead guilty to the charge.
