THIS ‘N’ THAT: Son of Positive Look founders now leads group

Preston Reynolds is the Positive Look president for 2017. The group works with visually impaired people in the community to help make life easier for them.

This week I sat down with Preston Reynolds and Cynthia Turner at the Athens-Limestone County Visitors Center to talk about the Positive Look support group for the visually impaired.

Preston, a Clements High School graduate, was born handicapped. He has three brothers — two in Athens and one in Auburn.

Positive Look was started by his parents, Wynell and Wesley Reynolds. The group works with Loretta Bryan, a state rehabilitation teacher. She helps group members secure items like hot dots for their stoves, so they won’t burn themselves cooking, talking watches and clocks, big print or talking Bibles and lighted magnifying glasses.

Preston is the new president of Positive Look for 2017, while Cynthia is the secretary. The group meets from 10 a.m. to noon the third Friday of each month at the Athens Recreation Center. Brandon Wallace, director of Athens-Limestone E911, will speak to the group on Jan. 20 about the new Smart 911 service. Everyone is welcome.

Preston attends Mt. Carmel Church of Christ where he leads the singing on occasion. He is also a member of the Lions Club and Athens Dulcimer Group and volunteers at the Athens-Limestone County Tourism Center.
