A shed owner’s decision to install surveillance cameras led to the arrest of an Athens man on four criminal charges, including burglary, an official said.
Taylor Wayne Parker, 24, of 1516 Pine St. was arrested Saturday on charges of third-degree burglary, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and second-degree possession of marijuana, records show.
On Saturday afternoon, the Police Department received a complaint about a burglar of a shed behind the residence at 1306 Market St., Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said Monday. Missing from the shed were a chainsaw, air compressor, two nail guns, a trimmer and a saw valued at $2,495, the chief said.
“The owner of the shed had cameras on the building, and he was able to download images of the suspect and place them on social media,” Johnson said.
Later Saturday night, Officer Josh Cagle, acting on information received about the burglary, found Parker at his home.
“When Cagle got out of his patrol unit, Parker ran inside the residence,” the chief said. “Cagle later located Parker inside a bathroom inside the residence. After a short struggle, Parker was taken into custody.”
Parker was booked at the Police Department and transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $7,000.
Investigator Bret Constable was able to recover the air compressor, and the investigation is ongoing, Johnson said.
