Trevor Davis Cantrell, 19, of 7900 Old Madison Pike, Madison, and Dacedic Deshun Ward, 22, of 122 Sweet Hollow Way, Madison, each face a charge of capital murder and first-degree robbery in connection with the Dec. 26 death of 18-year-old Jason Ender West.
Court documents show they are scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, in front of Limestone County District Court Judge Jerry L. Batts.
Investigators reported last week Cantrell was allegedly in conversation with West to sell him 89 Xanax pills for $300. They arranged to meet Dec. 26 at the Sonic Drive-In on County Line Road in Madison-annexed Limestone County.
When Cantrell and Ward met with West, security video shows the teen talking with the two men in a car before being shot in the chest and collapsing to the ground. Investigators used West’s phone to locate Cantrell and later connected the car to Ward.
Cantrell and Ward later told police they had planned to rob West the whole time, but Cantrell said he was unaware Ward planned to shoot West. Ward allegedly shot West after taking the money for the pills.
West’s family said in a statement the teen had graduated early from James Clemens High School and was preparing to go to college.
