- Sparks fly as firefighters spray down a burning car Friday in Ardmore. An outdoor building at the southern end of Leslie Lane caught fire, which destroyed several cars.
Four volunteer fire departments were called to a Leslie Lane address early Friday afternoon when an outdoor building and several cars caught fire. Crews were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the house.
Ardmore, Oak Grove-Thach, Elkmont and Elkton (Tennessee) fire departments sent apparatus to the scene and reported the garage was “engulfed” in flame and ammunition stored somewhere on site was exploding.
Crews had to utilize tanker trucks, because the closest hydrant was too far from the scene, according to radio traffic. It took more than an hour to extinguish the fire.
A state Fire Marshal’s deputy was working another call close to the area when he heard about the structure fire. Scorched ground surrounded the scene, but the deputy told The News Courier it’s too early to tell what might have caused the blaze.
The homeowner, who was too upset to speak long with a reporter, confirmed to The News Courier it was her property, including her husband’s police cruiser, that was destroyed.
