Officials are investigating an early-morning fire that broke out Monday, resulting in the death of one person. 

Shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, Owens and Piney Chapel firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 19000 block of Airfield Street and found a body on the scene, according to Athens Police Capt. Trevor Harris. 

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s office are working to determine the cause of the fire. The victim’s identity is being withheld, pending the notification of next of kin, Harris said.
