BIRMINGHAM (AP) — A Birmingham City Schools employee who authorities say was found with $500,000 worth of heroin last week could face additional charges over an alleged dog-fighting ring.

Charles Edward Walker Jr., 45, was arrested on drug trafficking charges Thursday outside his home.

Birmingham police said in a statement Monday that officers found 22 pit bull dogs at his home that appeared to have been used in dog-fighting operations.

Walker works in technical services and computer support for the school system. Schools’ spokeswoman Chanda Temple confirmed Walker’s employment but declined to give further comment.

In addition to about a half-million dollars’ worth of heroin with fentanyl, authorities say they also found $55,000 in cash and $9,000 worth of crack cocaine. It’s unclear whether Walker has an attorney.
