The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an early morning house fire Tuesday that destroyed a one-story brick home in eastern Limestone County, an official said.
One official said an arrest is pending in the case.
The two residents living at the Pine Drive home near Jones Road were not at home when firefighters arrived, said East Limestone Fire Chief Joey Boyd.
“When we got there the roof had fallen in — it was fully involved,” Boyd said. “It had been burning a little while before we got the call.”
Boyd would not say whether the fire marshal’s office was called to simply determine the cause of the fire or because arson is suspected.
“I’m not going to comment on that,” Boyd said.
The fire call came in about 5 minutes past midnight. It was raining at the time, Boyd said.
About 11 East Limestone firefighters and 1 Oak Grove-Thatch firefighter responded, the chief said. Firefighters were on the scene until about 3:30 a.m.
The home is considered a total loss.
“They might salvage a few things on the west end, but I doubt it,” Boyd said.
