County Commission Drug Court program awarded $25k

The Limestone County Commission on Monday unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the county drug court and the Alabama Administrative Office of Courts to further fund operations.
Limestone County Drug Court is a diversionary program designed to give nonviolent drug offenders an avenue to sober up and avoid jail time. The Alabama Administrative Office of Courts, or AOC, has a “significant” interest in developing and supporting such programs and wanted to aid Limestone County Drug Court to enhance its programs, according to the memorandum.
AOC has pledged $25,000 over the next fiscal year, which began Oct. 1.
Other business
Elsewhere Monday, the commission:
• Awarded a bid for motor oil to W.H. Thomas Oil;
• Approved job description for part-time litter patrol van driver and amended staffing plan to include part-time litter patrol drivers and part-time laborers;
• Approved Family Medical Leave for Susan McGrady, ending Dec. 19;
• Promoted Travis Hines to sheriff’s deputy;
• Approved merit increase for Jason Carter, equipment operator III;
• Removed a CCTV security/surveillance system from EMA inventory;
• Approved to utilize the County Joint Bid Program to order a Mack GU713 and STAMPEDE Dump Body with financing to be obtained prior to delivery
The Limestone County Commission will meet again for a work session at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Washington Street courthouse annex.
