One person was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Alabama 53 just north of the intersection with Pinedale Road.
Limestone County Coroner Mike West said Jonathan Blake Stanley, 28, of Prospect, Tennessee, was pronounced dead at the scene. He added Stanley was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash occurred at 7:40 a.m., troopers said.
Stanley, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was traveling south on Alabama 53. West said it appears as though he lost control and went off the right side. He explained that Stanley may have over-corrected, forcing his vehicle into the path of a northbound pickup truck.
West said Stanley and the driver of the pickup truck hit head-on and Stanley was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the truck was transported by Athens EMS to Huntsville Hospital.
West said it’s possible rain could have been a factor. State troopers are investigating the crash.
