A list of Limestone County storm shelters and rules

Limestone County’s shelters and locations are as follows. The shelters are open and available to the public when Limestone County is under a tornado watch.

• Clements Community Safe Room at 9158 U.S. 72, Athens

• Cowford Community Safe Room at 14024 Grover Drive, Athens

• Elkmont Community Safe Room at 19667 Sandlin Road, Elkmont

• Goodsprings Community Safe Room at 33634 Alabama 99, Anderson

• Owens Community Safe Room at 17120 Glaze Road, Athens

• Pleasant Grove Community Safe Road at 9080 Upper Snake Road, Athens

• Owens Elementary School at 21465 Alabama 99, Athens, (open to public after school hours only)

• West Limestone High School at 10945 School House Road, Lester (open to public after school hours only)

The following rules apply to the county’s community safe rooms:

• No firearms or weapons;

• No smoking;

• No alcoholic beverages or drugs;

• No pets, with the exception of service dogs for persons with disabilities;

• Children must be supervised at all times; and

• Be respectful of others.
