Editor’s note: The following letter was received by a student at Brethren Heritage School in Modesto, California. The fifth-and-sixth-grade classes are working on a project about the states, and this student is working on a project about Alabama. She asked that we publish her letter in hopes our readers might send her some information about our state.

Dear Editor:

My name is Allison Miller and I am in sixth grade. I attend Brethren Heritage School in Modesto, California.

We are doing state reports in our history class. I have chosen to do my report on your state of Alabama.

If you should happen to read this in your local paper, I would greatly appreciate receiving any information or items regarding your state. You could send pictures, tourist attraction information, trivia or anything that would cause me to be more familiar with your state.

Please send to Allison Miller, C/O Brethren Heritage School, 3549 Dakota Ave., Modesto, CA, 95358.

Thank you very much for helping me with my state report. I will appreciate any help you can give me.

Sincerely,

Allison Miller

A word of thanks

Dear Editor:

The family of Nellie Mae Schueler would like to thank the community for the outpouring of love, support, food and affection that surrounded her presence. Many thanks as well to the hearty 200-plus of all ages who attended Nell’s celebration of life event, held at the Vietnam Veterans of America building on Aug. 8.

We will never be able to repay you for your many kindnesses expressed to us in this difficult time. You have helped shoulder our burden and made her passing bearable.
