Belt, McDonald lead James Clemens past Huntsville

MADISON — James Clemens scored two touchdowns on special teams, one on defense and three on the ground from running back Bradley Belt — all in the first half — in a 55-8 win over Huntsville Thursday at Madison City Schools Stadium.
The dominating performance saw the Jets take a 41-0 first half lead and cruise in the second half with mostly reserve players.

After Belt gave the Jets an early 13-0 lead with a couple of rushing touchdowns on James Clemens’ first two possessions, Lance Meade blocked a Huntsville punt at the Panthers’ 10-yard line, which was picked up by Torrolla Walker in the end zone for a score.
A few players later Jets defensive back Xavier McNight intercepted a pass at the Panthers’ 30-yard line, but James Clemens gave the ball right back when Jackson Nowlin was intercepted by Hunter Battle, who returned it to the Jets’ 21-yard line.
A few plays later on third-and-9 from the 20, Walker preserved the shutout with an interception in the end zone.
Midway through the second quarter, James Clemens came up with its third interception of the first half when Monty Rice picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards for a score.
Following another quick three-and-out, Kyriq McDonald returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown to put the Jets up 36-0 with six minutes until halftime.
The punt return touchdown was James Clemens’ sixth special teams touchdown in the past five games and the third punt return for a score from McDonald, who had another punt return TD negated in the first quarter by a penalty.

James Clemens forced its fourth turnover of the first half on the next possession on a fumble recovery and Belt capped another short scoring drive with a 3-yard touchdown to put the seventh-ranked Jets up 41-0 with just over five minutes to play in the second quarter.
Nowlin added a 5-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Jets up 48-0 entering the final quarter of play.
James Clemens (7-2, 4-1) host Buckhorn next Friday.
