MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Department of Corrections officials say an inmate has been found dead in his cell at St. Clair Correctional Facility.
Corrections spokesman Bob Horton said in a statement that the inmate was found Friday evening at the facility in Springville. Horton said the death is a suspected suicide.
Corrections officers found 39-year-old Brian Tyrell Smith hanging from a bedsheet in a one-person segregation cell. He was pronounced dead shortly after he was found.
Smith was serving a 30-year sentence for a sodomy conviction in Madison County.
