DADEVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Tallapoosa County say an inmate who escaped from the county jail has been recaptured.

The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that 21-year-old John David Reynolds II was apprehended around 1:30 a.m. Thursday — about six hours after they say he fled from the jail on foot. Authorities say he was arrested by deputies about three miles from jail.

Sheriff’s officials say they’re investigating how Reynolds, a minimum-security inmate, managed to escape. They say he now faces charges of second-degree escape.

Authorities say Reynolds had been convicted of second-degree burglary and attempting to elude, and was awaiting transfer to the state prison system when sheriff’s officials say he escaped.
