An Athens man is facing a robbery charge for taking a woman to a location in Limestone County where two women allegedly assaulted her, stole her telephone, boots, purse and a bag containing clothing, and left her to fend for herself, an official said.

Records show Mickey Joel Paulk, 32, of 17484 Parker Road, was arrested April 5 on a charge of second-degree robbery. He was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting a $12,500 bond, which included $2,500 on a separate arrest stemming from a grand jury indictment.

Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputy Stephen Young said the alleged victim told sheriff’s investigators Paulk had sent her a text message in the early morning hours of March 30 telling her he was picking her up. After collecting the alleged victim, Paulk drove her to Dairy Road and stopped alongside another vehicle.

She told investigators two women emerged from the other vehicle, jumped on her, stole her phone, boots, purse and a bag containing clothing, then left her at the scene, Young said. She walked to a nearby residence and telephoned for help.

Young said the alleged victim had injuries consistent with her story, including blackened eyes, a swollen jaw, a bloody nose and a cut on her head. Her cellphone was recovered on Dairy Road, and investigators saw it contained messages Paulk had sent to the alleged victim, Young said.

The case remains under investigation.
