J.T. Lawrence

J.T. Lawrence was born Dec. 22, 1927, and passed from this life on March 5, 2016, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

J.T. was the retired owner of J & V grocery and a member of Salem Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lawrence; parents, Ernest and Lilly Lawrence; four brothers and six sisters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include sons, Calvin Lawrence and wife Sheila, of Decatur, James Lawrence and wife, Jennifer, of Athens, and Anthony Lawrence and wife, Kathy, of Athens; daughters, Gail Wales and husband, Hugh, of Athens; Donna Beasley and husband, Tommy, of Lester, and Daphney Lawrence and boyfriend, Marty Dollins, of Elkmont; brother Ozro Lawrence and wife, Louis Ann, of Athens; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his special friend and caregiver, Betty Thompson, of Athens; caregivers Carol Lopez, of Athens, and Brenda Martindale, of Elkmont.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to Dr. Ernest Hendrix, the staff at Athens-Limestone Hospital and Hospice of Limestone County.

Pallbearers are Bud Hill, Buck Marlow, Mark Wales, David Lawrence, Thomas Shedd and Bennie Hill.
