Elmer Jackson, 90, of Lester died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10 at Salem Springs Baptist Church. Viewing time is 10-11 a.m. with Ross Clemmons, Kip McKee and Lucky Teague officiating. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery.

Visitation is 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Jackson was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Cullman County. He was a charter member and a deacon at Salem Springs Baptist Church. He taught veterans at Holly Pond Extension. Mr. Jackson retired from West Limestone High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a graduate of Auburn University, the 1972 state of Alabama Conservationist of the Year, a member of Auburn University Agriculture Hall of Fame and received many national agriculture awards.

Survivors include his wife, Myrl Smith Jackson of Lester; daughter, Venalyn King and husband Johnnie of Decatur; sons, Michael Elmer Jackson and wife Patsy of Athens, James Douglas Jackson and wife Susan of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Timothy Shane Jackson and wife Anita of Lester, Mark Kent Jackson and wife Mindy of Athens; grandchildren, Beth Clemmons, Adam King, Aaron King, Ande Jackson, Jamie Jackson, Travis Jackson, Desiree Jackson, Dustin Jackson, Zeke Jackson and Zoe Jackson; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Leslie Jackson; brothers, PQ Jackson, Odis Jackson, Ersel Jackson and Marion Jackson Jr.; and sister, Dorthy Jackson.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.
