Nancy Gayle Gentry Orr, 79, of Nashville, Tennessee, was born June 20, 1936, in Athens. She was the daughter of the late Searcy Robert Gentry and the late Katherine Gentry Beasley. She departed this life Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Frank; brother, Bob Gentry and wife Julia; sons, Mark and Steve and their wives Landra and Jennifer; daughters, Karen Montgomery and Amy Orr; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relations.

Mrs. Orr graduated from Athens High School and attended Birmingham-Southern College, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was a member of Woodmont Baptist from 1961-1993 and Forest Hills Baptist 1993 to present, with active ministry in a number of areas. She participated in mission trips to Mexico, Guatemala, Poland and Portugal.

She was an avid gardener and reader, and an adventurous world traveler with an eye and an ear for beauty in places, people, art and music. She visited more than 40 countries as well as many of the United States, and enjoyed white water rafting, hot air ballooning, hang-gliding and flying in antique airplanes.

Visitation is 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 2101 Old Hickory Blvd., with a memorial service to follow at 5.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes or the National Parkinson Foundation.
