PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Two former high-ranking members of the Prattville Police Department have been arrested on theft-related charges.

Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson tells the Montgomery Advertiser (http://on.mgmadv.com/1MGv2BF) that officers received a call about suspicious activity outside a home Sunday evening. The officers found two men. One fled on foot and the other was caught — 46-year-old former Prattville Police Department lieutenant John McDaniel.

The other suspect was identified as another former lieutenant, 48-year-old Leon Townson. He turned himself Tuesday afternoon.

Thompson says Townson was in possession of property that had been stolen from the house.

Both men face charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools.

McDaniel’s attorney, Trey Norman, did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment. Court records show Townson doesn’t have an attorney.
