BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Alabama’s largest home is going on the auction block.
AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/1MxaDW4) that an absolute auction is set for Saturday for the 55,000-square-foot mansion in suburban Birmingham.
The Versailles-style estate is nearly as large as the White House and is owned by former health care executive Larry House. It has a long, guitar-shaped driveway and a dozen fireplaces.
The mansion has been on the market for several years, and Shelby County tax records list the value as $12 million.
The 15-bedroom, 22-bath home features amenities including a 25-person theater; a wine cellar that can hold 2,000 bottles; and a 3,000-square-foot guest house.
The home’s equestrian center features a barn with a lounge and an 800-square-foot loft apartment.
The 27-acre estate is located at the exclusive Shoal Creek development.
