The driver of the van, a male, was killed in the crash. Police have not yet released his name. The driver of the logging truck, a white male, had to be extricated from the cab of the truck. He was transported via MedFlight to Huntsville Hospital with injuries. Police have also not released his name or his condition.

The van was traveling eastbound on Huntsville Browns-Ferry Road when it was struck by the logging truck, which was traveling southbound. The logging truck struck the driver’s side of the van.

The impact caused the logging truck to flip over, spilling dozens of logs onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 31. The road obstruction forced detours as officials attempted to arrange for the logs to be removed.

A check of federal records shows no incidents involving Bobby Collins Logging. State troopers were also on the scene investigating because commercial vehicles were involved.
