A Limestone County man who noticed his shop light on when it shouldn’t be ended up catching and holding a burglary suspect at his home until authorities arrived, an official said Monday.

Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Baker was called to a home in the 27000 block of Mooresville Road Sunday night where he found the resident holding the suspect, James Nicholas Scott, 25, of 2998 First Ave., Ardmore, said Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

“The guy said there was a light on in his shop and that he chased down and tackled the man and that he was going to keep him there until officials arrived,” Young said.

Lt. Rhett McNatt, who was serving as backup to Baker, recovered a crow bar at the scene, Young said. Officials also discovered the suspect’s vehicle, which contained drugs, a short distance away on Mooresville Road, he said.

The victim said he did not notice anything missing from his shop but he did notice a gun cabinet had been moved, Young said.

Scott was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of a controlled substance, records show.

He was taken to the Limestone County Jail, where bail is set at $10,000.
