Emergency personnel remove the roof of Jeep Cherokee to extract a trapped driver Sunday at the intersection of Alabama 251 and Sweetbrier Drive in Athens. 

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson on Monday released the name of a man injured in a Sunday crash on Alabama 251.

Jose Artiaga of Athens was transported by MedFlight to Huntsville Hospital after the red Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving crashed into a tree near the intersection of Alabama 251 and Sweetbrier Drive, just west of Yarbrough Road. Artiaga lost control of the car on the curve just east of Sweetbrier Drive, according to police reports.

Athens fire, police and EMS responded to the scene. Firefighters used power tools to cut off the roof of the vehicle to extricate Artiaga.
