Athens (3-0-2) is also ranked No. 6 among all state high school girls teams, no matter the class division.

AHS has reached eight consecutive 5A state tournaments, including the last three championship games. They have been dominant in North Alabama.

In 6A, AHS will compete with many of the same teams, including No. 2 Chelsea, No. 3 Briarwood and No. 4 John Carroll — the teams they’ve played at the last three state tournaments.

East Limestone’s boys team came in at No. 5 in the 4A-5A poll. East has played only two games this season due to weather conditions.

The poll is compiled from the input of a collection of state high school coaches
