West Limestone senior Dakota Siniard is ready for the season after making a big decision over the weekend.
A four-year starter for the Wildcats, Siniard verbally committed to play football for the University of Southern Mississippi.
“This is a big decision for him and he really wanted to enjoy his senior year and this would free him up to do that,” said West Limestone head coach Jordan Cantrell. “He was very impressed with the campus and decided to go ahead and commit.”
Siniard committed to the Golden Eagles Saturday after visiting the campus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The 6-foot-4-inch, 290-pound offensive and defensive tackle has started for the varsity since he was a freshman.
“He dominated for us as a left tackle,” said Cantrell. “As we’ve evolved into a Wing-T, we need him on the strong side in our gap protection. He does well in that and in our counter scheme.”
After studying tape of more than a dozen offensive tackles on their board, Southern Miss coaches decided to offer Siniard during his weekend visit.
Siniard already held offers from Middle Tennessee State and Troy University.
As a junior, he was made the All-County football team and was an honorable mention selection in Class 4A. Siniard had a team-best 101 pancake blocks and paved the way for the team to rush for more than 2,660 yards last season.
West Limestone opens fall camp Aug. 4 and host defending 2A champion Tanner Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. for the first regular season game.
