North win streak improves to 12

Trey Potts scored eight points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as the North All-Stars downed the South 82-64 Wednesday night at Alabama State University’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
The Athens senior and AHS coach, Stace Tedford helped the North improve its current win streak in the All-Star Sports Week North-South Series over its southern rivals to 12.
The South last won 85-76 in in 2002.
The South led 39-35 at the half but was outscored 47-25 in the final two quarters. The North scooted out to a 14-2 lead in the third period as North MVP, 6-foot-7 forward Gerron Scissum of Lee-Huntsville, took over inside. He led the North with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Tavaras Tolliver of Scottsboro added 13 points with a 6-of-9 performance at the foul line. Dalton Barkley of Bob Jones chipped in 12 points and Ethan Stair of Hazel Green had 11. Stair also had three assists.
South MVP Brandon Austin of Carver-Montgomery had a game-high 15 points, cleared five rebounds and was 7-of-8 at the foul line. Pernell Vickerstaff of Opelika was 8-of-8 on free throws and finished with 10 points.
The other North coach was Handley’s Clifton Drummonds while the South was coached by Luverne’s Richard Dorsey and Beauregard’s Dewayne Drakeford.
GIRLS
North 58, South 46
Huntsville guard Shaquera Wade had 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals to pace the winners and earn MVP honors. Her Huntsville teammate Ta’Nisha Hill added 12 points. Holly Pond’s Megan Gambril also had five points and four steals for the North.
Pacing the South were a quintet of all-stars with six points each led by South MVP La’Tia Fils-Aime of Daleville, who had a game-high eight rebounds to go with her six points. Brantley’s Amahni Upshaw had six points and six rebounds. Angelique Chess, Areleatha Gipson and Emani Moon also had six points.
The North, coached by Center Point’s Ulysses Haynes and Muscle Shoals’ Brenda Mayes, now hold a 16-2 lead in the series. The win was the seventh straight for the North.
South coaches were former Blount coach Jarvis Wilson, now at Carver-Birmingham, and Eric Bailey of Maplesville.
