More than 200 athletes from across the state will compete in basketball, baseball, football, softball, soccer and volleyball.

Some of the top rising seniors from the Athens-Limestone area will play in six of the games, beginning with softball and soccer games Tuesday.

Tuesday will also be a busy day for all All-Star participants. The North-South baseball doubleheader will be played at Riverwalk Stadium, with first pitch at 4 p.m. The North-South girls’ soccer match begins at 5 p.m. at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex near AUM, followed by the boys game at 7.

Athens goalkeeper Dean Bunnell and East Limestone forward Dilan Sayer will participate. A local pair will also play in the girls match — Kate Morgan, a winger from Athens and Jordan Runion, a forward from East Limestone.

The North-South softball doubleheader will also be played Tuesday, at Lagoon Park, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. Megan Davidson, a pitcher from Athens Bible, will represent the local area.

The North-South girls and boys basketball games will be played at Alabama State’s Dunn-Oliver Acadome at 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday. The boys game will be the 71st in a series that began in 1953.

Athens head coach Stace Tedford is coaching the North boys team. The 2013 Class 5A boys Coach of the Year will have one of his own players in Trey Potts, a 6-5 forward. Potts is part of a North team that has a distinct height advantage over the South.

The North squad lists four players who stand 6-7 or taller with Luke Lena of Grissom at 6-10 the tallest. Kaleb Suggs of Colbert Heights is 6-8 while Dalton Barkley of Bob Jones and Gerron Scissum of Lee stand 6-7 each.

The North girls teams does not feature any Limestone County athletes, but does include Madison Academy’s Elizabeth Gilliam and Lauderdale County’s Makayla Liles.

The football team will report today and begin practice tonight in preparation for Thursday night’s 55th North-South Game at the Cramton Bowl. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

The football game is the only All-Star event to feature departing seniors only. Tanner’s Baltazar Rubio and DeShun Freeman are the only Limestone County football player in the game.

The volleyball game will also be played Thursday at 4 p.m. at Faulkner State University.
