Saturday Market and Cruise-In offering Fourth of July weekend fun

A star spangled Saturday — that’s what’s in store for those attending the Saturday Market this weekend.
Market-goers have the opportunity to celebrate the Fourth of July with a swinging jazz band, children’s activities and an array of produce and baked goods for the picking.
The Coolbone Brass Band, sponsored by Athens Rotary, will make an appearance at the market from 9 a.m. until noon.
Steve “Coolbone” Johnson grew up in New Orleans and played with several brass bands until Hurricane Katrina. After the hurricane, he settled in North Alabama.
The band will perform again by parading around The Square at 6 p.m. at the end of the monthly Athens Cruise-In
The Cruise-In, an event with vintage car lovers in mind, is from 3-6 p.m. Saturday.
“We appreciate Rotary helping us bring the Coolbone Brass Band to Athens for both events,” said Spirit of Athens Director Trisha Black. “Everyone had a great time when the band came to one of our Saturday Market events last year, and we expect a crowd to come see them again.
“Spend your Fourth of July weekend with us, and you will be able to find great music, fresh produce, classic cars and more in our downtown area,” Black said.
