MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The movie “Selma” will be filming in Montgomery at the state Capitol on Friday.

The Alabama Film Office says some streets will be closed as filming takes place at the front of the Capitol and at the King Memorial Dexter Avenue Baptist Church near the Capitol.

The film is about civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and the voting rights march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965. The film office says work will be done around the Capitol on Thursday to recreate the look of 1965, including removing signs, parking meters and street lights.

The movie crew is relocating to Montgomery after filming at the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. That’s where voting rights marchers were beaten in what became known as “Bloody Sunday.”
