Cantrell named West Limestone head football coach

West Limestone has a new head football coach, and he will be familiar to Wildcat fans and players. Jordan Cantrell, who served as an assistant coach for the past seven years, was named West’s new head football coach Thursday at a Limestone County Schools Board meeting.
Cantrell takes over for David Arnsparger, who stepped down as head coach in March. Under Arnsparger, West Limestone enjoyed some of its best offensive seasons in school history over the past five years.
A big reason for that is Cantrell, who served as the team’s assistant head coach since 2010. Cantrell has been the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator since joining the staff in 2007, but took over as the running game coordinator in 2010.
Since 2010, West Limestone has set school records for most points scored in a season and became the first team to make back-to-back playoff appearances in 2011.
After setting school records for points scored operating out of a spread offense in 2010 and 2011, West went back to a Wing-T type offense in 2012. It is unclear what Cantrell will run in his first season.
A 2002 East Limestone graduate, this will be Cantrell’s first head coaching job.
