Connect Run: Yarbrough, York, Huff overall winners in 5K, 10K, 1M

A pack of teenaged jackrabbits finished strong in the Chick-fil-A Connect Run, but Blake Yarbrough zipped across the finish line in 18 minutes, 4 seconds to claim the 5K championship in downtown Athens.
Yarbrough, competing in the 25-29 age division and setting a 5:49 pace on the inclined 3.1-mile course, fended off teens Ryan Ford (18:32), Andrew Snider (19:04) and David Brashier (20:05) on a bright and slightly breezy Saturday morning.
Tammy Brunton, also competing in the 25-29 division, clocked in as the female overall winner (21:58), while Lauren Boyd (22:36) placed second and Kristi Newton (23:55) third in a race with 297 finishers.
In the age 80-and-over division, Tommie Warner finished in the top 15 with a time of 24:14, while Dalton Davis placed first in the 10-14 age group with a time of 25:07 for 19th place overall.
As an age 25-29 runner, Brandon York won the overall 10K in 32 minutes, 27 seconds, while Nathan Huff (38:41) and Daniel Saint (39:17) rounded out the men’s top three among 83 in the 6.1-mile race.
Caitlin Morris topped the women’s field in 39 minutes, 20 seconds as the fourth overall runner, followed by Farmega Innocent (46:56) and Cindy Butler (49:57).
Micah Huff nabbed the first-place prize in the 1-mile race (7:34), with Cole Terry in second (7:50) and Blake Smith (7:55) third. Elizabeth Smith was the top female (8:32) and sixth overall among 21 competitors.
Based on official race results released Tuesday on http://www.connectrun.net, 401 racers were listed as official finishers after 452 had registered for the 5K, 10K and 1-mile races.
All together, this year’s runners and walkers combined to cover nearly 1,459 miles of pavement along the course beginning at the Limestone County Courthouse.
