- Hayden Durrett prepares to sign his letter of intent to play football for the Campbellsville University Tigers in Campbellsville, Ky. Flanking Durrett are his mother, Lisa, father, JT and brother, Marshall. Standing are his grandparents, Kathy and Tom Durrett.
Before this season started, Clint Legg knew Hayden Durrett was poised for a breakout year. The first-year Ardmore coach had watched Durrett play for three years, but saw the potential for more from the tight end.
Four months later, Durrett finished with a county-best 12 reception touchdowns and 4A All-State selection.
On Tuesday, the senior’s hard work paid off when he signed a letter of intent to play for Campbellsville University. Durrett will play tight end for the NAIA school in Campbellsville, Ky.
An emotional Durrett thanked his parents, coaches and teammates at a ceremony at the school Tuesday afternoon.
“We played him at offensive guard as a freshman,” remembered Legg. “After a couple of weeks in the offseason, we figured out he could catch better than anyone on the team. He was our go-to target at tight end. It’s going to be hard to replace him.”
A First-Team All-County selection, Durrett led Ardmore with 28 receptions for 528 yards and 12 touchdowns. He became Ardmore’s first All-State selection when he was recognized as one the top tight ends in the state with an honorable mention selection as a receiver in Class 4A.
