Brennan Crabtree is the Coaches All-County MVP for the girls team. She finished with 2,158 points for her career.

Limestone County basketball was as deep with talent in 2013-14 as it has been in a long time. Just take a look at the Coaches’ All-County girls team in which a pair of first-team All-State players were not named MVP.

Tanner senior guard Sydney Houston and West Limestone junior forward Kayla Carter were both among the five best players in their respective classes in the state. Both made the Limestone County All-County first team, as voted on by the county’s coaches.

As good as they were, neither has scored as many points as Brennan Crabtree. The East Limestone senior guard was named County MVP after leading her team to the Indians’ first regional appearance in 16 years.

Crabtree averaged 19.2 points per game this season to finish her career with 2,158 points. Her 23 points in the regional semifinal were enough to pass Elkmont’s Bailee Robinson on the state’s career scoring list, according to the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Crabtree ranks among the state’s top 50 all-time scorers in girls basketball on a list that also includes Clements’ LouLou Malone at No. 11 and Tanner’s Candace Byrd at No. 20.

“What makes her so good is the way she finishes,” said East Limestone head coach Josh Davis. “When she’s gets an opportunity, she scores. She is so versatile (and) we depended on her for a lot.”

The Class 5A All-State honorable mention selection shot 47 percent from the floor and grabbed 5.9 rebounds per game during her final season. She and fellow senior, East point guard Rachael Diamond, formed one of the best duos in the county this season.

Brennan Crabtree, East Limestone

First team

• Rachael Diamond, East Limestone: Made a county-best 43 3-pointers and shot 80.8 percent from the free throw line. The senior guard averaged 10.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.

• Sydney Houston, Tanner: A First-Team All-State selection in 2A averaged 13.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

• Kirstin Brown, Tanner: The 5-foot, 10-inch freshman averaged 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

• Kelsey Houston, Tanner: The junior scored 11.1 points and grabbed 3.5 rebounds to compliment cousin Sydney at Tanner.

• Kayla Carter, West Limestone: Another First-Team All-State selection, Carter averaged a county-best 19 points per game to go along with her 9.3 rebounds this season.

Second team

Shelby Clay, West Limestone; Jasmine Smith, Tanner; Channing Gafford, Clements; Stratton Hobbs, Ardmore; and Jhay Fletcher, East Limestone

Honorable mention
