High school teams stay busy during spring break

While students across Limestone County will get a break next week, a few local baseball and softball teams will remain busy during spring break.

At least six baseball teams will play in tournaments or area games next week. Athens will be in action Monday, March 24 in the Mountain Brook Sports Corporation Spring Break Tournament.

AHS plays Clay Chalkville at 3 p.m. at Mountain Brook High School. They will play Decatur at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and Walker at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Athens Bible School will also be involved in a tournament next week when the Trojans travel south to Sylacauga for the Fayetteville High School 1A Classic beginning Thursday, March 27.

The tournament will feature some of the top teams in Class 1A.

East Limestone will travel to East to play at Scottsboro Monday against Scottsboro and Sylvania and again on Thursday against Fort Payne and Plainville in Fort Payne.

Other baseball games next week include Ardmore at Lauderdale County, Mars Hill at Clements and Tanner at Hatton — all on Thursday.

Beach softball

Ardmore will head to the beach this weekend for one of the state’s largest softball tournaments in Orange Beach.

The Lady Tigers begin Monday, March 25 three games beginning at 9 a.m. against Chelsea. Ardmore will play Beauregard at 11 a.m. followed by North Jackson at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Ardmore will play two more games Tuesday, beginning with Buckhorn at 9 a.m., followed by Piedmont at 10:30 a.m. — both games will be played at Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Elimination play begins Wednesday at both complexes.

East Limestone will compete in the Lady Warrior Riverdale High School Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn. beginning Friday, March 28.
