Everyone going to see Ardmore’s baseball team play wants to know: Is that Reed kid pitching today?

That would be Cody Reed, Ardmore senior and Vanderbilt baseball signee.

Reed is enjoying his best season yet with the Tigers. Halfway through the high school baseball season, Reed has been close to unhittable.

In the Tigers’16 games this season, Reed has pitched 27 innings, striking out 60 batters and giving up nine hits with a 0.78 ERA.

And that’s been against the toughest part of Ardmore’s schedule. Reed is 2-1 this season, with the only loss coming last week to Huntsville, who could be ranked No. 1 in Class 6A when the next ASWA baseball poll is released.

“People call all the time wanting to know when he’s going to pitch,” said Ardmore head coach Andrew Smith.

Everyone wants to see the towering left-hander pitch his final games for the Tigers. Smith gets phone calls all the time about Reed, and that’s without college coaches recruiting him.

The senior made his long-time commitment official when he signed with Vanderbilt during baseball’s early signing period before the season started. But that doesn’t stop fans and professional scouts from inquiring about Reed’s next appearance on the mound.

“Really for the past three years, he’s been this good,” said Smith. “But he’s throwing it really well right now. He’s 2-1, but that loss came against the best team I’ve seen this year.”

Reed is one of four players hitting over .400 this season. Kenneth Embrey, Garett Miller, Donny Rogers and Reed have helped the team hit .349 as a team as the Tigers head toward the home stretch.

“We’re getting better,” said Smith. “We started out really slow, but we’re starting to hit better. We’ve been swinging the bat pretty good lately.”

Ardmore plays West Limestone and Elkmont Saturday, beginning at noon at West Limestone.
