ABS baseball wins area opener

Athens Bible’s baseball team had little trouble in their area-opener earlier this week against Waterloo. The Trojans won 20-1 and 13-0 to improve to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the area.
Cole Graviett threw a two-hitter, striking out 12 in a five-inning 20-1 win before Zach Ivey took the mound and allowed one hit in the second game.
Leading hitters for ABS in the first game were Drew Ogles and Ethan Thomas, who both hit home runs. Graviett, Andrew Dunaway, Tyler Hudson and Jeb Hagewood had two hits each.
In the second game, Carter Corneil led the way with a double and two singles. Thomas added a pair of hits.
Athens Bible hosts R.A. Hubbard today in a doubleheader.
Austin 13
East Limestone 7
Austin racked up 17 hits in the second game of a doubleheader against East Limestone Tuesday. Brick Pugh led East, going 3 for 4 and scoring a run. Justin Carlin scored three runs and was 2 for 3 at the plate.
For Austin, Clay Morland went 3 for 4, scored two runs and drove home a pair of runs in the 13-7 win.
Austin won the opening game 14-3 in a five-inning route. Austin Haataja was 2 for 3 at the plate for East.
Softball
ABS swept R.A. Hubbard in a pair of lopsided games Tuesday. Emma Jarrett struck out six batters and had a three-RBI triple in a 15-0 win during the first game.
Senior Anna Stinnett, pitching for ABS for the first time in her career, allowed no hits, no walks and struck out one in a 20-0 win.
Anna Price led ABS in RBIs with seven.
Clements 17, Decatur 6
Marissa Barnes allowed three runs over three innings, striking out three while allowing six hits in a James Clemens tournament over the weekend.
Six Clements hitters combined for 14 hits, 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored led by Karlie Pack, who had four hits and three RBIs.
Clements also defeated Vinemont 7-1 and Brewer 16-0
