Jerry Steven “Steve” Jeffers of Rogersville died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at his residence at the age of 54.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel, with Vic Vickers officiating. Burial will be in McCartney Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blaine Cox, Dustin Haraway, Johnny Walls, John King, Rodney Hammond and Christopher Garner. Honorary pallbearers will be Oneal Smith, Nelson Allen, Kenny Garner and Johnny Thompson.

Jeffers was a lifelong resident of Rogersville. He attended Lauderdale County High School and was a member of the 1974 state championship football team.

He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and husband, and a friend to many.

Steve loved to play golf with his friends, and he spent many hours doing what he liked to call tractor therapy, which included mowing the grass or bush hogging on the family farm, usually with a grandkid or two on his lap. He is remembered as loving and kind by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his dads, Jerry Gene Jeffers and Charles Robert Tomlinson; and his grandparents, Clyde and Maude Jeffers, Homer and Oshia McCrary, and John and Lula Tomlinson.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Watts Jeffers; children, Jenny (Brandon) Hughes, Shane Knox, Shawn Knox, Julie (Chris) Cook and Staci Knox; mother, Virginia McCrary Jeffers Tomlinson; grandchildren, Bryar Knox, Cooper Knox and John William McPeters; sister, Stephanie (Travis) Hendrix; nephew, Nicholas Hendrix; nieces, Lauren and Charli Hendrix; and numerous cousins and a host of friends.
